IFP on Military Makeover

International Fire Protection, in partnership with the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), and Military Makeover, donated their time and materials to install a fire safety system in a military hero’s home. This included smoke alarms that meet the latest UL standards and a fire sprinkler system. The fire safety project was part of Military Makeover’s full-house remodel project in southern Florida. This episode aired on Lifetime TV on June 7, 2024, and again on June 13, 2024.

Fire Safety in the Home

Steve Kerber, FSRI’s Vice President and Executive Director, spoke with Military Makeover co-host Art Edmonds to discuss fire safety precautions in the home. These precautions can prevent fires from happening or from spreading inside a house. Some of the tips he shared include:

  1. Make sure all smoke alarms are in working order.
  2. Replace alarms every 10 years.
  3. Install smoke detectors in every bedroom, outside of every sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
  4. Ensure there are CO (carbon monoxide) alarms on every level of your home and in your garage to protect from this “silent killer”.
  5. Install a fire suppression system in your home. Contrary to popular belief, only the fire sprinkler head closest to the fire will go off. One sprinkler head can contain a fire 90% of the time.
  6. Have an escape plan. Note two routes out of every room. If you can’t get out, get a closed door between you and the fire.
  7. “Close Before You Doze”. Close your bedroom door before you go to sleep.

International Fire Protection was honored to take part in providing peace of mind for this military veteran and his family, protecting their home from a fire disaster!
